Hiking & biking

Hiking trails and bike tours start right at the hotel, letting you explore Zauchensee without driving anywhere. Whether you’re after a relaxed walk, a sporty mountain bike ride, or an e-bike tour with a little extra boost, you’ll find routes to suit every level and preference.

By the water

Just a few metres from Hotel Alpenrose, Lake Zauchensee is the perfect place to cool off on warm days. In summer, the water is pleasantly refreshing – and both kids and adults enjoy taking a dip. If you’d like more than swimming, you can learn windsurfing or sailing with qualified instructors, and pedal boats are also available for hire. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the nearby Amadé Thermal Spa in Altenmarkt is a great option for a relaxing day out.

Adventure up high

Right by Lake Zauchensee, there’s a short via ferrata that’s easy enough for kids from around age 12. The highlight: two bridges high above the ground. For even more adventure, head to nearby Altenmarkt: a high ropes course awaits with six different routes and around 50 stations in a range of difficulty levels, suitable for children from about age 4.

Rafting & canyoning

On a rafting trip, you’ll ride an inflatable boat through lively stretches of white water. Canyoning is all about exploring gorges and riverbeds up close – walking, swimming, climbing and abseiling your way through the landscape for a real nature adventure. From Zauchensee, it’s only a short drive to several nearby locations where rafting and canyoning are available.

Shopping in Altenmarkt and Salzburg

Just about 10 km from Zauchensee, Altenmarkt offers a small but charming selection of shops for browsing and discovering, plus cozy bars for a relaxed pause along the way. The town’s compact center makes for an easy, pleasant stroll. And just about an hour from Zauchensee, Salzburg makes a fantastic day out. Whether you’re into culture, shopping, or simply strolling through a beautiful city, there’s plenty to enjoy – from Hohensalzburg Fortress and Mozart’s Birthplace to Mirabell Palace and its gardens. For a relaxed break in between, wander along the famous Getreidegasse and settle into one of the many cafés for a coffee and a little people-watching.
